Located in central Italy, Lazio has a mild climate influenced by the Mediterranean Sea. It is divided into 5 provinces, Rome (the capital city of Italy), Rieti, Latina, Frosinone and Viterbo. The city of Rome is just one of the many highlights in Italy's Lazio region, indeed if you are looking for a Rome holiday villa then you won't be disappointed with the choice from the Villa Company.

To the south of the city of Rome there is a volcanic lake at Castel Gondolfo, where the Pope has his summer residence. The spectacular views over the perfectly conical hilltop are quite stunning, and here the air is generally fresher due to the constant, light breeze.

While the popular coast in the immediate vicinity of the city of Rome is rather busy, you don't have to travel far to the north or south to enjoy some splendid Mediterranean beaches. Indeed it's worth the trip up the coast from your Italian villa to Monte Argentario. Here you'll find a good choice of excellent restaurants many with beautiful views over the harbour.

Then there is Rome itself, an amazing city by any standards and one which is enjoyed by adults and children alike. Dazzling sights such as the Collosseum, ancient Rome and the Forum are beyond compare. Then there are the numerous spectacular piazzas such as Navonne; adorned with huge, impressive statues and beautiful decorative fountains such as Trivoli. Not to mention the labyrinth of small steets with fascinating shops, cafes and restaurants. It's easy to spend many days in Rome and a hassle free way to see the sights is to take a train into the centre. Once you are in the centre its fairly compact and short taxi rides are relatively inexpensive if you really want to see as much as possible. Then at the end of the day you can return to your peaceful Italian villa and the tranquility of a cool swimming pool.

Lazio offers a variety of landscapes including lakes, mountains and sea. To the north of Rome there is an enormous leisure lake - Lake Bracciano - which is very popular for sailing. There is a medieval castle at Bracciano itself creating a stunning backdrop. In this area of Lazio the countryside is peaceful and there are numerous Etruscan and Roman historical sites which are well worth visiting - the Etruscan tombs at Civinella being perhaps the best example.
