The Park Regional du Haut Languedoc, which ranges from the Montagne Noir near Beziers up to the Cevennes, has impressive landscapes featuring immense rock formations and deep river gorges. It is the second largest national park in France. There are numerous show caves and caverns to explore in the Languedoc, such as the spectacular Grotte de Clamouse which is an enjoyable excursion on those rare wet days or an opportunity to escape the searing mid summer heat.

In the north of the Languedoc, impressive Pont du Gard straddles the river Gard, standing testament to the achievements of the Romans who built and affording fabulous views for the canoeists who journey underneath. A little inland is the impressive fortress town of Carcassonne.
