Holiday villas South West Corsica France - Out & About:
There are boat trips from most of the larger ports on Corsica and one of our favourites is with Thomas Marine from Propriano, taking in the spectacular coastal scenery all the way up to the nature reserve at Scandola, a UNESCO world heritage site. If you're lucky dolphins will accompany you for most of the voyage and the glass bottom boat gives you a glimpse of the abundant marine life.
Apart from beautiful scenery and fabulous beaches, south west Corsica also has a rich history - from the timeless medieval town of Sartene to Ajaccio, the birthplace of Napoleon. Bonifacio, much written about, is a natural harbour that has to be seen to be appreciated. Tall limestone cliffs tower over the inlet that becomes the harbour. The quay side thronging with bars and restaurants vying for trade. From here you can take the ferry to Sardinia, only an hour away! The citadel sits proudly on the top of the cliffs looking across the straits.

Porto Vecchio is a cosmopolitan resort town, but also the capital of southern Corsica. The town and marina are stylish and vibrant with boutiques and restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets.
Holiday villas South West Corsica France - Historic Sightseeing:
Largely undiscovered until the 1950s, Corsica has a rich early history with archeologists recently uncovering many remarkable finds such as menhirs, prehistoric dwellings and relics from ancient Greece, Etruscan and Roman times. In south west Corsica, on the outskirts of Sartene is the fascinating Musee de Prehistoire Corse, which has an excellent collection of artifacts from the Neolithic period, bronze and stone ages.

South West Corsica Holiday villas - Corsica Beaches:
Where can I find the best beaches in Corsica?
There are so many outstanding beaches around Corsica's 1000km coastline, you really are spoiled for choice. Most Corsica beaches are clean and lapped by clear, warm and inviting waters. However, most Corsica beaches do not have lifeguards (non-surveille) so visitors should take care in the sea. Corsica's best beaches and coves are often tucked away and unmarked, and if you're prepared to explore a little, then you won't be disappointed.
Two of the most famous beaches on Corsica island, Palombaggia and Santa Giulia are firm favourites, although you can always find a more secluded spot to relax. Tizzano, a special and relatively undiscovered resort has a splendid crescent shaped beach with a few smaller coves tucked away on the other side of the marina. A small idyllic inlet, its white beach is flanked by a delightful cafe and restaurant serving dishes inspired by the day's catch. To either side of Tizzano are more beautiful beaches many of which are remarkably free of people, especially during low season.
The village of Campomoro has a popular sandy beach that is approximately 1km long and gets very busy in the summer. However there are several little coves with good snorkelling if you stroll towards the tower.
Portiglio has 4km of south facing sand that is popular with the locals and visiting sun worshippers alike. This Corsica beach shelves quite steeply, so we advise you take extra care when in the sea as the waves can get quite big in a slight breeze.
Propriano has a busy main beach officially called the Plage du Phare, but it is also known locally as Lido Plage after the Hotel le Lido found here. This Corsica beach has a parking area and a beach cafe. If you want somewhere a little less busy, then many coves and smaller beaches are accessible along the coast here. Head out of Propriano in the direction of Ajaccio and you'll find Cappiciolo where there is a large stretch of beach and numerous little coves beaches. Porto Pollo also has a nice little beach that is close to the marina and restaurants, so it's ideal for a spot of lunch.
Cupabia has a beautiful beach with fine golden sand lapped by clear blue waters. Parking is limited so we advise you get there early and this Corsica beach has a small beach cafe.
South West Corsica Holiday villas - Corsica Diving:
The Mediterranean sea around Corsica is warm and clear; it is perfect for a diving holiday and is home to a wide variety of sealife. Corsica lies within the French Cetacea Sanctuary which has the highest concentrations of whales and dolphins in the Mediterranean along with a vast array of flourishing marine life. Corsica also has many diveable wrecks and, on the south west coast off Sagone, lies the wreck of a fire-fighting plane that sank in 1971. Generally Corsica's west coast is rocky with fabulous offshore reefs and spectacular walls. Parts of the coast here are best accessed by boat since the coast road is rather challenging.
South West Corsica Holiday villas - Corsica Golf:
South West Corsica boasts one of the most spectacular golf courses in the world, the 18 hole international Golf de Sperone near Bonifacio, designed by Robert Trent Jones. We found it awesome just riding around the course on a buggy!
