There are so many outstanding beaches around Corsica's 1000km coastline, you really are spoiled for choice. The Gulf of Ajaccio is beautiful, culminating on the northern side with the Iles Sanguinaires. The main beaches at Ajaccio are to the west of the town along the route des Sanguinieres where you'll also discover a good number of excellent restaurants along the front. As you head away from the town centre towards the Genoan watchtower, the beaches become noticeably quieter, from the Marinella beach through to the Saint-Francois beach. To the south of Ajaccio there are lovely sandy beaches and a well developed tourist industry with Porticcio being one of the main holiday resorts of the area.

Although Ajaccio itself is busy, it is very easy to escape the hustle and bustle and discover Corsica's numerous hilltop and coastal villages. One ideal way is to take a boat trip and many depart from the port. It's a pleasurable voyage from Ajaccio along the coast to the magnificent nature reserve at Scandola. If you're lucky dolphins will accompany you for some of the journey.
Ajaccio is home to the Fesch Museum, one of the most beautiful regional museums in France. It is a lovely building exhibiting paintings spanning six centuries.

Skin diving is very popular in Corsica and there are a number of clubs and schools in both Ajaccio and Porticcio. Throughout most of the year its beautiful Corsica beaches are lapped by warm seas with coastal breezes and crystal clear waters providing ideal conditions for a wealth of watersports activities; including SCUBA diving, snorkelling, water skiing, jet skiing, windsurfing and sailing. South west Corsica has many scenic walks and, for the more adventurous, organised canyoning, canoeing and rafting are also available. If that's not enough there is always pony trekking and mountain biking amid beautiful Corsica island scenery. Sout west Corsica boasts one of the most spectacular golf courses in the world, the 18 hole international Golf de Sperone near Bonifacio, designed by Robert Trent Jones. We found it awesome just riding around the course on a buggy!
