Within easy reach of the attractions of Albufeira, yet well away from the hustle and bustle.

Guia Algarve Holidays - Guia overview:
While it is fun to visit, Albufeira can get rather busy in the main season, this is why we've selected villas in Guia that are within easy reach of the attractions at Albufeira but well away from the hustle and bustle. The small village of Guia is a lovely place to stay. These Algarve villas are good quality and the village has a good selection of local restaurants. Ramirez is one of our favourites at the Villa Company and this is where the famous Portuguese dish of chicken piri piri was created. Guia has a great selection of beaches which are just a short drive away from our Algarve villas here. Gale beach is the closest and has two restaurants that look out onto the beach so families can watch their children play on the sand whilst they get a bite to eat.
Our Algarve Albufeira villas are set in the peaceful and very attractive Quinta dos Alamos community, just a stroll from Guia village centre. See our Algarve holiday villas in Guia

Albufeira Guia Algarve Holidays - History:
Albufeira was once a thriving seaport and had its own castle, which was later destroyed in the earthquake of 1755. Most of the older parts of Albufeira survived and have been carefully maintained. In Roman times Albufeira was know as Baltum and later changed by the Moors to Al-Buhera. During the Moors' 8th Century occupation Albufeira became an important Portuguese trading port. During the 'War of the Miguels' Albufeira was besieged and set ablaze. The destroyed town consequently suffered a very long period of poverty and really only recovered with the boom of tourism.
As a result of this tourism, the 'once upon a time' fishing village of Albufeira has expanded into a major holiday resort. There is a plentiful collection of bars, restaurants and clubs which start to fill up with people in the evening, until they spill over into the narrow streets.

Albufeira Guia Algarve Holidays - Sightseeing:
There is a small museum of 15th and 17th century Ming ceramics and a Municipal art gallery that holds regular exhibitions during the main holiday season. A further addition to Albufeira is a new Virtual Archaeological Museum. A new, attractive marina has been completed on the west side of Albufeira town.
Other places of interest near to Albufeira are, Armacao de Pera, Boliqueime and Paderne with its ruined castle perched on an isolated hill some distance from the village. At Ponte Grande there are impressive caverns with large arches and the underwater caverns of Grutas do Xorino.

Albufeira Guia Algarve Holidays - Sport & Leisure:
Within a few kilometres from our villas in Albufeira/Guia is the Algarve Shopping Mall with a huge choice of stores, a food court and multi-screen cinema where movies are shown in their original language - mostly English. Across the main road there's a branch of Makro, take your card if you are a member for access to the superstore.
Zoomarine Aquatic Park is a theme park with rides and various attractions with an aquatic theme. There's ben quite a lot of investment recently which is raising standards enormously and it's becoming very popular with families. There is also a dolphin interaction programme where you can swim with the dolphins - this needs to be pre-booked.

Albufeira Guia Algarve Holidays - Golf:
Balaia 9 hole golf course carries the title of 'Executive Course' which in its name implies the quality of its layout and subtle challenges. Pine Cliffs is a well maintained golf course of 9 holes located on the cliff top near Albufeira and managed by the adjoining Hotel. Salgados course is set on the flat lands behind the sandy beach of Praia de Gale. It is technically difficult due to the prevailing winds.
Albufeira Guia Algarve Holidays - Beaches:
Like the rest of the Algarve coastline, the Albufeira area is blessed with some beautiful beaches. Fine golden sand with low cliffs and lots of natural rock sculptures carved by the sea over millennia. Gale, Castelo and Coelho are some of the Algarve beaches here that are still very much unspoilt. There are welcome beachside restaurants, surprisingly good quality and contemporary places where you'd certainly enjoy a more dressy dinner in the evenings with good parking close to the sands.
